Press Release:Rapidvite Warragul Pacing Cup - Easter Sunday

  • A large crowd saw talented young horseman Greg Sugars win the $25,000 Rapidvite Warragul Pacing Cup on Easter Sunday with Johnorama.
Owned by Jack and Nola Munnerley, both long time supporters of the Warragul club, Johnorama sprinted to the lead in the closing stages and race favourite Tear It All Away, with Veranjee finishing third.
Jack Munnerley said after the race that he had asked Sugars several weeks ago to set Johnarama for the Warragul Cup, as it was a race he particularly wanted to win.
Sugars, who prepares a team of horses at Hopetoun Park, is orginially from South Australia and has developed a great strike rate since moving across to Victoria with his family several years ago.
A natural in the sulky, Sugars has been in demand from trainers because of his skill as a driver, and should prove just as successful as a trainer.
Our Malabar, from a back mark handicap of 30 metres, turned in an outstanding performance to finish in fifth placing, while Jazzam did not have any luck, and was well beaten at the 400 metre mark, tiring to finish at the end of the field.
Johnorama has scored 18 wins and 26 minor placings from 82 starts.
